Factors Associated with Modern Contraceptive Use Among Out of School Adolescent Girls in Majengo and Njoro Wards of Moshi Municipality, Tanzania

Background: Low uptake of modern contraceptives among adolescents remains a serious public health concern with over 20 million in need are not using any. In Tanzania where the adolescent fertility rate is 112 per 1000, only 15.2% contraceptives. Contraceptive use stands out to be one key interventions reduce burden pregnancy which high country at 22%. There little information on factors associated contraceptive school adolescents, who an increased risk pregnancies. Objective: To determine prevalence and girls Moshi municipality, Kilimanjaro region. Methodology: This was population based cross-sectional study, conducted municipality region 2 wards; Majengo Njoro. The wards were randomly selected 21 Household survey aged 10 19 years consented or assented participate study recruited. Data collected Kobo Collect TM Android device. analysed SPSS version 20. use, crude adjusted analysis logistic regression done. Results: A total 298 out-of-school enrolled, median age (IQR 17- 19) years. ever 154 sexually active 51%, 35% current users methods. Two common methods used were; injectables (27.3%) male condoms (3.2%) respectively. Factors independently being married cohabiting (aOR: 5.7) having more sexual partners past 12 months 5.9). Conclusion: Ever reported 51% Respondent’s marital status number Strengthening adolescent-friendly SRH services outside facility setting needed given very few currently method. Further, through inter-sectoral collaboration keep should strengthened.
